The WRDSB will raise the Progress Pride Flag at the Education Centre and all schools on Monday, June 1, 2026. At Forest Heights CI, we raise the Progress Pride flag as a symbol of solidarity and inclusion for 2SLGBTQIA+ students, staff, families and caregivers. It also honours the intention of inclusivity by representing identities that have been marginalized, specifically Black and racialized communities, trans people and those lost to AIDS or currently living with HIV.
June is pride month in Canada. Many institutions and organizations, including our Nation’s Parliament, fly the pride flag as a celebration of diversity. Many of our students, staff, parents, guardians and community members identify as members of the Rainbow (or 2SLGBTQIA+) community. The Pride flag is a symbol for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Its colours, red, orange, yellow, green, blue and violet represent life, healing, sunlight, nature, harmony and spirit. Flying the Pride flag signals that our schools are inclusive spaces for everyone, aligning with our WRDSB Operational Goal of student and staff well-being. It also aligns with our WRDSB Strategic Priority that staff are supported in their wellness and students experience a sense of belonging in a caring learning environment that addresses their well-being.
