Schools in our district follow the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) laws on drinking water.

The local public health unit and the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks are notified within 24 hours when a testing laboratory detects an exceedance of the standard for lead in a school’s drinking water sample.

When levels of lead that are higher than provincial standards are detected, we take immediate action to protect our students. These actions could include increasing flushing, replacing the fixture, rendering the tap or fountain inaccessible to children by disconnecting or bagging it until the issue is resolved, as well as taking any other steps as directed by the local Medical Officer of Health.

On June 18, water samples were taken from your child’s school. The results show that levels of lead in one water fixture were higher than the provincial targets.

  • This water fixture is:
    FHC-26; tap (FR#4-6 Kitchen)

Please know that we will continue to work on corrective measures until we meet the provincially set standards.
