Dear FHCI families,
The Waterloo Region District School Board (WRDSB) is committed to supporting safe and welcoming schools and workplaces. As per the Waterloo Regional Police statement issued earlier today we are aware that there will be families who are concerned because of recent online threats related to the current situation in the Middle East.
WRDSB is committed to supporting the safety and well-being of all students. All WRDSB schools will continue their normal operations and schedules. As per typical practice, we will follow all appropriate safety protocols to support student and staff safety and well-being. We understand that some families may make plans in the best interest of their family regarding school attendance. Any student who is not in attendance at school tomorrow due to concerns about safety will not be penalized.
Waterloo Regional Police’s statement reinforces its commitment to ensuring everyone is safe and feels safe in Waterloo Region. If you have specific safety or security concerns, questions or information, we encourage you to contact Waterloo Regional Police or in case of an emergency call 911.
Please be assured we will continue to use a trauma-informed and responsive approach to support students and families and to maintain a safe and welcoming school environment.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please do not hesitate to contact me. Additional information about student mental health and well-being supports are available here on the WRDSB website. Moments such as these are quite difficult. I want to reiterate our commitment to all the students we serve – that they are able to show up and be their most authentic selves, in safe environments so that they can learn, be and do their very best.
Sincerely,
Tina Rowe
