Congratulations to our very own Sarah Stockford, teacher, and Farah Wahib, grade 11 student, of FHCI!
The District 24 OSSTF Human Rights Committee granted Forest Heights teacher, Sarah Stockford, and the school’s student organizer of Girls Night In, Farah Wahib, an award intended to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday by inspiring students to make their communities a better place and to promote human rights issues in our school.

“The purpose of Girls Night In is to improve the mental health and well-being of female students at FHCI,” said Sarah Stockford. “By strengthening student resiliency, improving self-esteem and self-efficacy and understanding characteristics of healthy relationships our goal is to reduce rates of bullying, depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. By improving development of teen girls, our hope is that these students will increase their engagement in school and be better prepared to learn. This event aligns with our board improvement plan, which focuses on the well-being of our students and the focus area of promoting healthy schools.” Guest speaker is Vanessa Buttinger, Miss Oktoberfest 2016. There will be three rotating sessions that feature a discussion and an activity. A karaoke dance will complete the evening. Girls Night In will be held on Friday, May 12th at Forest Heights Collegiate Institute on Fischer-Hallman in Kitchener. All girls are welcome, but if they are not a student at FHCI or from one of the grade 7 and 8 feeder schools, they must be accompanied by a FHCI student. Girls Night In.2
